Suzanne Goulding has won the inaugural "ADRA Gourmet Challenge" at the South New Zealand camp meeting at Pascoe Park in Christchurch. The ADRA Gourmet Challenge which was a light hearted and family centred competition along the lines of the currently popular television food shows hosted by celebrity chefs.

Compared to some of the damage experienced in Saturday’s earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, some would say the Seventh Day Adventist School and Footsteps Preschool in Papanui got off relatively lightly. At a closer look, however, cracks have begun to appear. On visiting the site, staff members were already working to remove the learning centre’s hazardously balanced chimney. A quick survey of the building revealed further, possible structural damage including cracks to the foundations under the carpet inside. Although a preliminary assessment has deemed...

Christchurch’s Cranmer Square, in the heart of the inner city but not completely cordoned off, is as close as ADRA staff can get on foot to some of the most severe damage that Saturday morning’s 7.1 earthquake has left in its wake. Pockets of people filter through road blocks and wind around piles of debris to survey the skeletal remains of some of the area’s oldest heritage buildings and talk to one another. Chatting to the local people, it seems that everyone has a story of their own to share. Chris, a local artist whose bedroom is barely visible from beneath a makeshift tarpaulin cover,...
