Bequests and Wills

Many people wish to plan gifts to provide compassionate, empowering assistance to those in poverty as part of their legacy. These extra special gifts show the ultimate commitment and belief that our supporters have in our cause. At ADRA New Zealand we believe that everyone is created in God’s perfect image and deserves to be given the opportunity to thrive. I’d like to thank you for sharing this belief and for helping us to provide opportunities to people in poverty and hardship in New Zealand and around the world.

Benefits of having a will

At ADRA New Zealand we understand that making a Will is a] sensitive process. Yet it is a crucial element in making sure that your wishes are known and carried out, and that your loved ones and the causes that you care about are looked after well into the future. Whether you have few possessions or many, you should have a Will as without it, your estate will usually be settled according to legislation and your wishes will not be met. If you already have a Will, remember to update it regularly in order to ensure that it reflects your wishes – especially if your circumstances change.

ADRA New Zealand recommends that you seek the professional advice of your solicitor or legal adviser to ensure that all facets of your Will are worded correctly and reflect your wishes.

Types of Bequests

Residuary Bequest (or percentage of residue)

Residuary bequest allows you to provide financially for your family, friends and debts and only leaves that which remains to ADRA New Zealand. The benefit of making this type of bequest is that the dollar value isn’t eroded by inflation and is able to have the largest impact for our beneficiaries.

Percentage of Estate

You can also nominate ADRA New Zealand to receive percentage of your bequest. With this type of bequest beneficiaries of your Will, such as family, friends and ADRA New Zealand, are not disadvantaged should your circumstances change.

Contingency Bequest

Depending on how your asset/s are owned your partner or spouse may be given the use of property and/or assets during their life-time, with the remaining money or assets, or a stated portion thereof, going to ADRA New Zealand after they pass away.

Specific Bequests

Name a specific sum of money, property, shares or other assets to be awarded to ADRA New Zealand. This gift while generous, can be eroded by changes in circumstance. If choosing this type of bequest, review your Will regularly.

Other Bequests

You can also choose to support us through a perpetual trust that provides ongoing support to ADRA New Zealand, or by nominating ADRA New Zealand as the sole benefactor of your life insurance policy.
